David Howard Healey

August 12, 1948 – March 5, 2010

David Howard Healey, 61, of Mishawaka, Ind., passed away peacefully Friday, March 5, 2010, in his home after a nearly year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on Aug. 21, 1948 in Charlotte, to Howard Benson and Majel (Dorriell) Healey.

David graduated from Olivet High School in the class of 1966.  David was employed as a security guard at University Park Mall in Mishawaka.  He was a U.S. Army veteran and received a bachelor and master’s degree from Indiana University South Bend.  He was a founding member of the Civil Rights Heritage Center at IUSB and Director of the Oral History Project.

David was preceded in death by his father, Howard Benson Healey, a brother, Gerald Healey; and a sister Janet Wanzer.

On August 4, 2006, in Mishawaka, Ind., David married the former Kathy A. (Grall) Strycker.  She survives in Mishawaka, Ind.  Also surviving are his mother, Majel (Dorriell) Healey of Apopka, Fla; sister, Mary Anne (Joe) Hines of Apopka, Fla; son, Matt Healey of Mishawaka, Ind.; and daughter, Josette (Kenny) Herrick of Orlando, Fla.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Elkhart Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements.

Information provided by Roy Simpson 11/7/2016 from newspaper obituary retyped for clarity.  Roy remembers that Dave went directly to K Co. when he arrived in country.  Dave was the company clerk when the LRRPS were transferred to K/75.
