Ernest E. Eidem, 59, of 604 Iron St., Lehighton, passed away Friday, July 27, 2007, at Blue Mountain Health Systems Gnaden Huetten Campus, Lehighton. He was the husband of Kathleen A. Rehrig Eidem. They were married for 34 years on June 30. Born in Mahoning Township, he was a son of the late Russell and Myrtle (Rex) Eidem.

After graduating from Lehighton High School, he enrolled in Bethlehem Business School. Upon graduation, he served his country during the Vietnam War in the Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He was a Purple Heart medal recipient. He later attended Dyke College, Cleveland, Ohio, to further his education in business. He most recently was a self-employed C.P.A. in Lehighton, where he served his community faithfully as an accountant and income tax preparer. Among his memberships were St. Johns U.C.C., Mahoning Valley, where he served as an elder and volunteered on the church consistory.

He was a member of the Pa. Society of Public Accountants, Pa. Institute of C.P.A.s, Lehigh Valley C.P.A. Club, Lehighton American Legion Post 314 and its Vietnam Last Mans Club, and V.F.W. Post 256, Lehighton. He was a life member of Andreas Sporting Club and Beaver Run Rod and Gun Club.

Survivors: Wife, Kathleen; son, Eric M. Eidem and his wife Linda of East Penn Township; brother, Ronald Eidem and his wife Julie of Long Run; granddaughter, Morgan Eidem; nieces, nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Ronald, Robert and Russell.

Services: 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 1, Andrew P. Ovsak Funeral Home, 4th and Iron streets, Lehighton, with Rev. Frank Spada officiating. Call 9-11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment with full military honors under the direction of the Lehighton Area U.V.O., Lehighton Cemetery.
