Joey Edward Beard, 2nd Bde LRRP and K/75 Ranger, passed away February 16, 2012

JOEY EDWARD BEARD

June 7, 1950 – February 16, 2012

Joey was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on June 7, 1950 to William Edward Beard (1924-1995) and Gladys Othell (Williams) Beard.  Joey was survived by two brothers: Mike Beard of Winnsboro, LA as well as George Hammock of Shreveport, LA. and two loving sisters; Judy Gage of Jonesboro, AR and Carol Shirey of Baton Rouge, LA.

Just as his father before him, who had served in the Army for 3 years during WWII, Joey served his country in Vietnam as an Army Ranger with the 2nd Bde LRPs of the 4th Infantry Division as well as a member of K Co, 75th Infantry Rangers.  Among his numerous awards and decorations were the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, and Purple Heart.  During his service in the Central Highlands of Vietnam his team mates recall him as being a fierce warrior, a truly honorable friend and a fun guy during “stand-downs”.    Joey touched many lives during his stay with the Rangers and each “touch” made us better for it.  The pride that endures today of all Rangers is in part due to the service of such men as Joey.

Upon discharge from the Army, he married Debra L. (Goodman), in 1971 in Sabine, TX. Together they had two sons that sadly preceded him in death, Michael Eric Beard and Joe Edward Beard.

Joey Edward Beard, 61, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2012 in Franklin Parish, LA. He was a resident of Winnsboro, a worker with concrete in construction and a member of the Church of Christ.

Joey’s Grandchildren included:

-Hollee Jester
-Lynsee Newman
-Lily Smith
-Owen Smith
-Isaiah Aymond
and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Joey’s wishes were to be cremated.
