Marshall Simmons Estes, K/75 Ranger, passed away April 3, 2006

MARSHALL SIMMONS ESTES

31 May 1947 – 3 April 2006

Marshall was born to Robert Benjamin Estes (1915-1982) and Thelma Elizabeth Simmons Estes (1921-2009) on May 31, 1947 in Ripley, Tippah County, Mississippi.  Marshall had three sisters: Carole, Kitty and Kay as well as three brothers: Robert Jr., John and Joseph.

Marshall joined the Army on March 12, 1968.  Upon arriving in Viet Nam, he volunteered for assignment to Company K (Ranger), 75th Infantry (Airborne) where he distinguished himself as a team member in the later part of 1969 before rising to team leader in early 1970.  Upon his return from Viet Nam, he was honorably discharged on March 12, 1970 having earned his Combat Infantryman’s Badge and the respect and eternal gratitude of his fellow Rangers.

A lifelong resident of Ripley, MS, Marshall married Virginia Elizabeth Agent Estes (1949-2001) and together gave life to three children: Jacqueline Estes Acouetey, Marshall Estes and Franklin Estes.

Marshall died on April 3, 2006 at the age of 58 years.  He was predeceased by his loving wife Virginia and they rest together, in peace, in the Little Hope Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Falkner, MS.

Members of K Co., 75th (Ranger) Infantry, 4th Infantry Division, who served with Marshall, regard him as a warrior, hold him in the highest regard, and consider it an honor to have fought alongside this Brother Ranger.
