William Gary McClure, 62, of South Daytona, passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2012 from throat cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 22, 1949 in Waynesville, N.C. to the late William and Frieda McClure, Gary served in the Vietnam conflict with K Company, 75th Infantry Airborne Ranger, 4th Infantry Highland Low Teams, LRRP. He received three purple hearts for his meritorious service. He was honorably discharged in 1971.

Gary was employed with Cheesbro Roofing Co. for many years. He enjoyed offshore fishing and hunting with his buddies. He loved his grandchildren. He is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy of almost 40 years; his daughter Michelle; and grandson Skyler of Hinton, W.Va.; his son Michael and wife Cindy and granddaughter Evie of Jacksonville; brother Eddie and wife Margaret McClure of New Smyrna; his nephew, Eddie McClure; several cousins; many fishing and hunting buddies.

A memorial service will take place at Ponce Inlet Veterans Park (by light house) At 3:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14. In accordance with Gary’s wishes, his remains will be scattered at sea after the service and any other boats are invited to follow the family boat. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made in Gary’s name to Vietnam veterans of America, 8719 Colesville Rd., Ste 100, Silver Springs, MD 20910 or the charity of their choice .
